Alexander Technique - Catharine Gunningham

What is it?

The Alexander Technique is a practical, powerful yet subtle tool for changing long-term habits which lead to wear and tear on the body and stress in our whole self. If we are not aware of what we're doing, we can easily compound the damage that these habits are causing.

By re-educating our sense of movement and balance, we can often prevent problems before they occur as well as improve poise and performance. We can learn to make less effort in everything we do.

The Technique can be used to enhance co-ordination and comfort in everyday tasks, as well as in more specialized activities such as playing an instrument, sport or dance.

The Technique was recognized as vitally important to health and well-being by doctors in the 1930s, and since then many people have found it of far-reaching benefit in their lives.

‘When you stop doing the wrong thing the right thing does itself.’

‘The Alexander Technique is an intelligent way to solve body problems. Many are mystified by their own back pain, excess tension or lack of coordination. But as they learn the Technique, they are surprised that they really can make lasting changes in the way they walk, their degree of muscular tension or shape of their posture.’
